Wanted Fan Immersion

The browser-based, free-to-play, MMOG (massively multiplayer online game) is steeped in the mythology of the film, which tells the story of an office drone recruited into a fraternity of assassins - a ruthless secret society charged with carrying out the will of destiny. As they progress through the game, players will build their character from an assassin in training to a powerful Fraternity leader. They will use strategy to carry out exciting missions delivered by the Loom of Fate, and utilize micro-transactions to upgrade weapons and ammunition, gain healing abilities, and fortify their fraternity. Social networking aspects of the game allow players to recruit others into their fraternity, assign "hits" on competing players, and team up to take out unsuspecting rival targets. The best players each season will receive cash prizes.

What is a Fan Immersion Game?

Fan Immersion Games (FIGs) are casual, massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) that are free to play yet also include opportunities for players to buy advantages and premium accounts using microtransactions payable via sms messages and credit cards. These games deliver high fan engagement through their story-driven design and community elements.
Licensed

RockFree

RockFree is a free-to-play, browser-based music game that is very similar to “Guitar Hero.” Players create their character, and can play through either official songs licensed by Acclaim, or songs uploaded by other players. Developed by Acclaim Games for Internet browser, taking the style of the Guitar Hero saga, push the right keys (1,2,3,4 and 5) on the timing bar when notes come.

You won’t find no-name songs in this game. Instead you’ll play to songs made famous by bands like White Zombie, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Heart, Joan Jett, Iggy Pop and more! Ready to play directly in your browser, there are currently over 30 official songs in the game, and users can upload their own music, offering an even graeter amount of choice. Rather than pay for a songlist you may or may not like, in “Rockfree” you can purchase optional songs based on how long you want them unlocked, on 30-, 60-, and 90-day intervals.

Hattrick

Hattrick is a browser-based massively multiplayer online football management game developed in Sweden and started in 1997. Currently the game contains 128 different countries, each with its own league pyramid, and 52 different language versions. As of Novembar 21, 2012, the game has over 640,000 users, each with their own team, but the number has been steadily declining (losing on average about 8000 users a month) since it peaked in February 2009 with almost one million users. Hattrick is in its 48th season, each of which lasts about four months.

The game is free to play, though there is an optional premium supporter service that provides additional features, as well as a mobile service, both available by in-game purchase. As with any manager game, the player must assign positions to the players and choose among some basic tactical and strategic options.

Gameplay

The basic idea of Hattrick is to manage a football team wisely, whether it be in buying and selling players, setting the team's lineup, or expanding the arena to the perfect size. Every user in Hattrick has a team of his/her own. The user has wide control over their team, and gameplay is mainly limited by economic and tactical restrictions. Many different types of teams exist within Hattrick; the team's type is generally shaped by the training program set up by the user, as well as the formations played.

League pyramid

Each included (not all fifa countries are, but they are added when needed) country has its own league pyramid. Abandoned teams in high levels of the league pyramid are not given to new players until the team demotes to one of the bottom two levels of their country's pyramid. As a result, new users begin at the bottom of their country's pyramid and have to work their way up by winning their division at each level. Each division has eight teams competing for the league title. When new players join, their division is randomly selected by the administrator who handles their registration application. If a player is successful enough to win their division, he or she has the opportunity to promote to the next level the following season; depending on the division level of the team and the team's relative performance when compared with other winners from their level, the league winner either auto-promotes to the next level or plays a qualification match against a team from the higher division.

cupWinners in divisions II — VI will auto-promote if they are in the top half of the ranking among other winners in their league level, as determined by total points and goals. If the team is in the bottom half, they will draw a qualifier opponent. Winners in divisions VII and below automatically promote. In addition, depending on the level, teams who place 2nd in the lower divisions may also promote, as detailed in the table above. At every level except the bottom division in a country, the teams placing 5th or 6th must play a qualifier against a team from the division below them. Teams placing 7th or 8th automatically demote to a division below theirs, and are replaced by auto-promotees.

League and National Cup

Each included country has a league which is divided into series. The series below the main divisions are also groups, where teams play each other in two legs, the number of sets and groups are defined according to the number of users in the country. Each included country also has a national cup that is played by all teams through a knockout system.

The winners of the top division and cup of each country gain spots in the Hattrick Masters. If one team is champion of the crown and major league, it is the sole representative of its country. The countries with the largest number of users are Argentina, Denmark, Germany, England, France, Italy, Mexico, Finland, Sweden and United States.

Premium features

Though Hattrick is free to play, the game has an optional pay-to-play feature called Hattrick Supporter. Hattrick Limited earns additional revenue through the Hattrick Mobile service, and through the more traditional merchandise offerings in the game's shop.

The purchase of Hattrick Supporter unlocks a number of optional features. "Hattrick Supporter will not give your team any in-game advantages, but rather deepen your experience of the game,"according to the game developers.

Development and ownership

In April 2012, Hattrick Holdings was purchased by Zattikka, a casual gaming developer based in the United Kingdom, as part of its strategy to acquire established but "under-exploited" online games. As a preparation for the sale to Zattikka, the developers declared that they won't improve core features of the game for the foreseeable future (postponing the announced new staff system for instance), but instead focus on improving the experience for newbies coming into the game, as well as attracting new members and adding things (like hattrick gears) that users can pay for. The philosophy to not be able to pay for success still stands.

Community

The large Hattrick community has expanded the reach of the game well beyond the hattrick.org website. Many supplemental websites for the game seek to explain the game's inner workings to new players, while others simply offer easier methods of calculation and organization through an API.

Forums exist for every series, country, region, CHPP Program, and federation in the game, along with a Global forum. In addition, there are forums for "newbies" to ask questions about the game, as well as both country-level and global "non-HT" forums, in which free discussion of topics outside of Hattrick may occur.

During two weeks in May 2006, more than 196,000 Hattrick members gave their opinions about the upcoming World Cup in Germany, making this the largest ever football survey.

Third-party tools

Certified Hattrick Product Providers (CHPP) enhance the HTML-based game by accessing various site data from the server and using it to perform useful functions. Applications outside of Hattrick.org which use any form of automation (such as scanning pages) must be CHPP certified. CHPP Applications take many forms. Manager Assistants such as Hattrick Assistant Manager (HAM) and Hattrick Organizer (HO!) generally help managers by organizing various team data graphically and archiving that data. Manager Assistants also usually offer some sort of lineup calculator that calculates the ratings teams will achieve with a certain lineup. Match Viewers offer an enhanced method of viewing matches live beyond the in-game HT Live. Statistics scanners such as Alltid offer in-depth analysis of Hattrick data. NT/U20 Trackers such as HT-World and Türkiye U20 Player Database help NT/U20 coaches to follow players easily. Other CHPP applications include Friendly Cup Assistants, browser plugins, online betting and even a (Dutch) Hattrick Radio station. Applications that are CHPP certified display a CHPP logo, and Hattrick users may login to the applications using their Hattrick username and password which produces an OAuth token for use with CHPP.

Reception

Hattrick has won the Multiplayer Online Games Directory's "Game of the Month" Award on three separate occasions: October 2002, April 2004, and most recently in November 2006. It was also voted Favorite Simulation Game of 2011 by the users of BBGSite.com.

Academic study

Hattrick has been studied academically, for example being used in a University of Helsinki case study into whether online simulation games, such as Hattrick, could be used as a business model for online betting and gambling businesses. The conclusion was "Online gambling on simulated sport events is a very interesting proposition with good prospects in the future; further research and piloting projects are however needed before one can give any conclusive answer to the actual future value of such services."

It has also been used as the basis for a Lund University academic paper, "Time Extraction from Real-time Generated Football Reports", presented at the Nordic Conference of Computational Linguistics in Tartu, Estonia, 2007. The paper proposed sorting events in football match reports, per sentence, based on a classification scheme (e.g., result-change, save, finish, pre-finish) and implemented the approach in proof of concept tool. For Swedish, the approach was better than naively assuming that events occurred in the same order as they appear in the match report.

Travian

browser gameTravian is set in classical antiquity. Each player starts the game as the leader of a small, undeveloped village, surrounded by undeveloped resource fields. The player can develop these mines to increase their resource output. The village can be developed by constructing new buildings and upgrading existing ones. Recruiting military units allows players to attack other villages to plunder its resources, and defend from enemy attacks. Villages may trade their resources with other villages if both villages have a marketplace. The player may expand their realm by founding new villages, or by conquering other players' villages. Players can communicate with each other using in-game messages, and may join alliances for military and economic co-operation with other players.

Starting a game

Players must register on the Travian website to start a game, providing an e-mail address, and creating a username and a password. The player chooses a tribe to start the game with, and may also choose in which quadrant of the map their initial village should spawn.
Players must also select a World, commonly known as a server, to play in. Entities in one World can only interact with other entities in the same World. Events that take place in one World do not affect other Worlds. Players may create accounts in multiple Worlds, but creating more than one account in the same World is prohibited by the rules. Worlds close for new players after a certain number of players have signed up.

You can choose between three tribes in Travian: Romans, Gauls and Teutons. Each tribe has advantages and disadvantages and their troops are also very different. It is important to choose the tribe that fits you perfectly.

The Roman

The Roman Empire is the tribe in Travian which is most easily played by beginners. Because of its high level of social and technological development the Romans are masters at building and its coordination. Also, their troops are part of the elite in Travian.
They are very balanced and useful in attacking and defending. To guarantee this variety the Roman troops are trained for a very long time and their training is expensive. Their infantry is a living legend, but their defence against enemy cavalry isn't as good as that of the other tribes.
For beginners and those players who don't know exactly what they want to play, the Romans are the ideal choice.

The specialties

* Can raise or extend a building and resource field simultaneously
* The City Wall gives a high defence bonus
* Merchants can carry 500 units of resources (speed: 16 fields/hour)
* Very powerful infantry, average cavalry
* Development is expensive and takes a long time.

The Gauls

The Gauls are the most peaceful of all three tribes in Travian. Their troops are trained for an excellent defence, but their ability to attack can still compete with the other two tribes. The Gauls are born riders and their horses are famous for their speed. This means that their riders can hit the enemy exactly where they can cause the most damage and swiftly take care of them.

This tribe is very easy to defend, but an aggressive tactic is possible too. This gives you the opportunity to develop into any possible strategic direction (defensive or aggressive, lone wolf or reliable helper, merchant or plunderer, infantry or cavalry, settler or conqueror), but you need a bit of experience and talent. Nevertheless, also a tribe for beginners!

he specialties
Field

* Speed bonus: Fastest troops in the game
* The palisade gives an average defence bonus
* Merchants can carry 750 units of resources (speed: 24 fields/hour)
* Cranny is twice as big
* Expensive siege weapons
* Cheap settlers/li>

The Teuton

The Teutons are the most aggressive tribe. Their troops are notorious and feared for their rage and frenzy when they attack. They move around as a plundering horde, not even afraid of death.

However, they lack the military discipline of the Gauls or Romans which causes them to be weak in speed and defence. For aggressive and experienced players the Teutons are an excellent choice!

The specialties

* Plunder bonus: enemy crannies only hides 66% of the normal amount in Travian version 2.5 and 3, and 80% of the normal amount in Travian version 3.5.
* The earth wall is almost indestructible but only gives a minimal defence bonus
* Merchants can carry 1000 units of resources (speed: 12 fields/hour)
* Cheap, fast troops which are excellent plunderers
* Weak defence

Ikariam

Ikariam is a browser game real time strategy massively multiplayer (MMORTS), whose aim is the colonization and conquest though, attaches great importance to trade and diplomacy. It was developed in Germany in 2008 by the programming undertaking on-line games Gameforge. Thousands of players can participate simultaneously in a virtual world set in the historic old age, with inspiration from classical and Hellenistic Greece in the morphology of the buildings.
Browser game

The player receives a small polis should be expanded to build a great empire economic and / or military, and eventually by founding new cities called colonies.

The city is adjacent to other cities on the same island with a wonderful offering a particular bonus for each city on the island. In turn, this island is close to other islands forming an archipelago. The game world consists of archipelagos, being able to give two types of battles: Maritime and Land.

game mapThere are five raw materials: wood, marble, wine, sulfur, and Crystal (in Latin America, wood, Grape, Powder and Glass). Then there is the Gold, obtained in different ways. Wood is in all the islands and therefore is available to all players since the start of the game. Furthermore, the four remaining resources (so-called luxury resorts) are divided according to the island, each island having only one type of them. All resources are essential, Trade and the Looting play a key role in the game.

In the colonies can also be corruption, which causes a decrease in the level of citizen satisfaction in the colony as well as the production of resources. This situation can be reversed with each level of an exclusive building for the Governor's residence called colony.

Moreover each polis, according to their level of its stores, has a number of action points. These are used to carry out actions that the city origin, such as attacking or transporting goods, and regenerate the action to be completed.

The game is free, takes place in a web environment, so it requires only a Web browser. Each language has a different number of servers themselves, which are added to meet demand from new players. However this game does not transmit viruses, as some believe, so it can rely on this as it is a safe and free to the public.

What is Browser game

A browser game is a computer game that is played over the Internet using a web browser. Browser games can be created and run using standard web technologies or browser plug-ins. Browser games include all video game genres and can be single-player or multiplayer. Browser games are also portable and can be played on multiple different devices or web browsers. Browser games come in many genres and themes that appeal to both core players and casual players.

Characteristics

Browser games are often free-to-play and do not require any client software to be installed apart from a web browser. Multiplayer browser games have an additional focus on social interaction, often on a massive scale. Due to the accessibility of browser games, they are often played in more frequent, shorter sessions compared to traditional computer games.

Since browser games run isolated from hardware in a web browser, they can run on many different operating systems without having to be ported to each platform.

Web standards

Standard web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can be used to make browser games, but these have had limited success because of issues with browser compatibility and quality. These technologies, collectively termed dynamic HTML, allow for games that can be run in all standards-compliant browsers. In addition, dedicated graphics technologies such as SVG and canvas allow for the fast rendering of vector and raster graphics respectively. In addition, WebGL allows for hardware-accelerated 3D support in the browser.

Caution!

Browser games can be a distraction in work environments, causing lost productivity. Critics cite examples such as the occurrence of May 2010, when Google replaced their normal logo with a playable rendition of Pac-Man. A small scale study of 11,000 users concluded that Google's playable logo caused users to spend an extra 36 seconds on Google's homepage, which could be extrapolated to 4.82 million hours over Google's 504 million unique users. Assuming all of this time was lost during time that would have otherwise been spent productively, the game could be considered to have incurred a time cost of $120 million USD in man-hours.
